Great Whitehaven Beach Run
While there are many fun runs in every city in Australia there is something really special about the Great Whitehaven Beach run, which is in June every year. You would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful place to go for a run than Whitehaven Beach and you can choose from a half marathon, 10km 5km and for the juniors 1.5km or even 500m. The best thing about being in the Whitsundays is that after the run you can spend a week exploring the area either by going on a sailing boat, hanging out at Airlie Beach or staying on the haven that is Hamilton Island.
When you think Queenstown you might think adrenalin sports and ski fields but Queenstown is also home to the Kepler Walking Track in the Fiordland National Park. This 60km walking track can be completed in 3 or 4 days depending on what pace you want to go at. There are huts set up along the track (book in advance) which are comfortable and have gas cooking stoves. The best time to travel is between October and May, winter on the Kepler Track is very cold and avalanches are a risk.
Tip: Prepare yourself for all weather conditions, it is not unusual to see snow on this track even in spring and winds can reach 100km/h, bring wet weather gear no matter how much the sun is shining in Queenstown.
