How to Beat the Holiday Blues

A topic that will be close to the heart for a lot of us right now is how to beat the holiday blues. Whether you have been on an overseas adventure, a local trip down the beach or had a staycation and did nothing except binge on Netflix it is always tough to come back to the day to day normality of work. Trust me, in two weeks from now when you are kicking goals at work, lost that holiday weight and settled into routine (which we all thrive on really), these feelings will feel like a distant memory. Right now though, when that time feels a long way away, here are some methods to beat the holiday blues.

New Year New You:

I can hear your groan from here, and I get it, it is so cliché to start the new year by making a big change and most New Year’s resolutions never last. Stay with me though, what if you are one of those that stick with their resolutions? What if this something shapes 2017 into something amazing? Have a think about something you really want from 2017 from a health goal to learning the piano, or taking a photography course. It might not lead to that ideal body weight, or that dream job, but you could have a lot of fun and meet some great people. This change could just be the step you need to take you to places you’ve never been before.

Pamper Yourself:

There is nothing that makes you feel like a new (and happier) person than a pamper experience. Pampering means different things to different people but it’s all about ultimate you time and relaxation, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. You can go on Groupon and find yourself a bargain or visit a fancy spa facility and have a day of being spoilt. For those who really want to relax you cannot go past Mornington Hot Springs. The Hot Springs are always an incredible experience and you can choose your level of experience from simply enjoying the springs or amping up your experience by booking into a private area or even enjoying a spa treatment.

Get some Vitamin D:

Vitamin D is such a great way to help you regulate your mood and keep depression at bay, exactly what you need when suffering from the holiday blues. One of the best ways to get some Vitamin D is to take a walk in the sunshine. Although we have to be careful out there in the harsh Australian Sun, getting out and about in the glorious sunshine is a great way to naturally get some Vitamin D into your system. The most simple way to do this, and a great way to incorporate some exercise into your day, is to add a midday walk into your lunch break. A simple walk in the sunshine can make you a happier and more productive worker.

Find something to look forward to:

Finding something fun to look forward to can really help with the holiday blues. If you can’t think of anything fun you have coming up than create something fun. A holiday is always top of my list of things to make me happy. You could spend a weekend exploring quaint Daylesford, or a week holiday to wherever an airline is having an amazing special to or taking some serious time off to explore our beautiful world in exquisite detail. If a holiday seems a bit out of reach after the Christmas season you could start thinking about where you would like to go. Planning your holiday is half the fun anyway, and what might not be realistic for 2017 could be perfectly achievable for 2018.

Now is a great time to try and shake those holiday blues and get ready to take on 2017 and make it the best year it can be and hopefully some of these ideas will help to inspire you.
